IAEA Technical Meeting
From 10 to 12 October 2018 International Atomic Energy Agency（IAEA）Technical Meeting “Recent Advances in the Treatment of Emerging Organic Pollutants” was held at the offices of CGN Dasheng in Suzhou. The meeting addressed problems arising from the presence of organic pollutants in wastewater or surface water which has become a major issue in recent years. The meeting was hosted by International Atomic Energy Agency（IAEA）and the China Atomic Energy Agency（CAEA). It was organized by CGN Dasheng Electron Accelerator technology Co., Ltd. and the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, Tsinghua University. Representatives from more than 10 IAEA Member States participated in the meeting in order to discussed the feasibility of applying ionizing radiation technology (including gamma ray and electron beam) to decompose low concentrations of contaminates from wastewater.
Mr.Hu Dongming, the GM of CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co., Ltd., attended the opening ceremony. Participants included representatives from the United States, Korea, India, Poland as well as the China Isotope & Radiation Association (CIRA), Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Suzhou University, Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Guangdong Nuclear Technology and its affiliates. Many leading experts from CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary CGN Dasheng Electron Accelerator technology Co., Ltd. also attended the meeting.
During last decade CGN Dasheng and Tsinghua University have made outstanding breakthroughs in the use of electron beam technology for industrial wastewater and antibiotic sludge treatment and have built a full-scale demonstration unit. These achievements have well received and resulted in positive evaluation and response from both the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and international counterparts. CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co., Ltd. has also established EB industrial-scale textile and dyeing wastewater treatment projects in Jinhua city, Zhejiang province and in Jiangmen, Guangdong province, CGN is building the first EB demonstration project for the treatment of antibiotic sludge in Yili, Xinjiang province.
The Technical Meeting was held in Suzhou at the head quarters of CGN Dasheng. The IAEA plays an important role in developing electron beam technology for use in environmental conservation, and regards the process as one of the main research directions for the peaceful use of atomic energy in the 21st century. Hosting this international meeting raises significantly China’s international status in the field of emerging organic pollutants treatment technology and has a positive impact on the realization of China’s related high-tech products “going out”.
As a leading enterprise in China’s electron accelerator industry, CGN Dasheng will continue to work with Tsinghua University to find solutions to current environmental pollution problems and will expand the application of electron beam technology in the field of environmental protection.
During the TC meeting and new CRP proposals all participants attended technical visits to CGN Dasheng Accelerator manufacturing garden and China’s first industrial-scale EB demonstration for textile and dyeing wastewater treatment in Jinhua city, Zhejiang.
